Pacnet, an Asian telecom service provider headquartered in Hong Kong and Singapore, announced on December 8 that the company plans to construct a new undersea fiber optic network, which is slated for completion by early 2012, according to a press release by Pacnet on December 8, adding that the company has earmarked US$150 million for the project. The new cable system, dubbed WAC (West Asia Crossing), will link India, Chennai, to both Malaysia and Singapore through North America, the Middle East, and Europe, while integrating with the company's existing pan-Asian EAC (East Asia Crossing)-C2C undersea cable system, which connects India to countries across Asia and North America via EAC Pacific. The APG system is expected to deliver a bandwidth capacity of 6 to 8 Terabit per second upon completion, according to the same source.
